A Social Story is an evidence-based practice consisting of short stories designed to objectively share information about social situations.

1. They are a way to provide information 

2. They are meant to describe a situation/behavior

3. A minimum of 50% of all Social Stories developed for a student should praise what they are doing well

4. They should be used immediately before the student needs to use the targeted skill 

A Social Story is NOT:

1. meant to change a negative behavior

2. contain judgement words (should, shouldn’t, must, mustn’t, ought, ought to, bad, naughty, inappropriate, etc.)
